The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory 記憶の固執の崩壊

For example, this series of art books.

My parents bought the books just after I was born. When I was a toddler, I could not yet read. I liked to pull them out from the bottom of the bookshelf and look at them. It was Salvador Dali’s paintings that caught my attention. They were imprinted on my brain.

When I grew up, I travelled alone by train for three months in Europe. Towards the end of my journey. From the Mediterranean coast and southern France, via the Perpignan border station, to the Pyrenees and Catalonia. I get off the train at Figueras. Wanted to see the sea at Port Lligat, so took a bus to Cadaqués.

I walked up the hill, over the hills, and when I saw the sea, which was so often depicted in Dali’s paintings, my heart cried out.

Everything, even the time when I was three years old and opening art books, came vividly back to me as if it were only recently.

たとえば、この画集シリーズ。

わたしが生まれた直後に、両親が買った。わたしが、文字がまだ読めなかった幼いころ。書棚の一番下に並んでいたそれを引っ張り出して、眺めるのが好きだった。わたしの興味を引いたのは、サルバドール・ダリの絵だった。脳裏に、刻印された。

やがて大人になり、一人で欧州を３カ月間、列車で旅した。旅の終盤。地中海沿岸、南仏からペルピニャン国境駅を経由して、ピレネー山脈、カタルーニャへ。フィゲラスで列車を降りる。ポート・リガトの海が見たくて、バスで、カダケスへ向かった。

坂道を歩き、丘を越え、目前に広がった、ダリに描かれた海を目にした時の心の叫び。

何もかもが。

3歳のころ、画集を開いていたころさえもが、つい、この間のことのように、鮮やかに思い出されるのだ。
