The day before yesterday, I met Asako (Asha) and her family for the first time in a year. Asakoâs diary written in her younger days was translated into English by her granddaughter-in-law, Tanvi, and published at the end of last year. I attended an event held to commemorate the publication. The book is a clear record of those days.
Asako was born in Kobe, Japan, to Indian parents who fought for Indiaâs independence during British rule. She is a woman who seems to symbolise the cooperation between India and Japan during the Second World War.
She wished for the independence of her mother country, which she had not yet seen, in the image of her parents, who were instrumental in Subhas Chandra Boseâs efforts to work with the Japanese Army. With a burning desire, she volunteered for the âIndian National Army Womenâs CorpsââŠ.

This video was made by me last year. It is based on a conversation between Asako-san and myself. Through the experiences of Asako and her family, I explain the relationship between the INA and Imperial Japanese Army, and Subhas Chandra Bose in an easy-to-understand manner. Please take a look.
